Travel Guide to Australia

I always wanted to go to Australia that is one of the most beautiful and unique countries.

It has got so many outstanding places to visit that it would be difficult to choose among them.

Here are some interesting facts about Australia that you might not know.

Fact #1.

Australia is the sixth largest nation after Russia, Canada, China, the United States of America and Brazil.

It has, however, a relatively small population.

Fact #2.

Australia is the only nation to govern an entire continent and its outlying islands.

The mainland is the largest island and the smallest, flattest continent on Earth.

Fact #3.

Australia is an independent Western democracy with a population of more than 20 million.

It is one of the world’s most urbanised countries, with about 70 per cent of the population living in the 10 largest cities.

Fact #4.

Australia is the driest inhabited continent on earth.

Its interior has one of the lowest rainfalls in the world, and about three-quarters of the land is arid or semi-arid.

Its fertile areas are well-watered.

However,  they are used very effectively to help feed the world.

Sheep and cattle graze in dry country, but care must be taken with the soil.

Some grazing land became desert, when the long cycles that influence rainfall in Australia turned to drought.

Geography

Australia is world’s smallest continent, but sixth-largest country.

Population is concentrated along the southeastern and eastern coasts.

Australia is slightly smaller than the USA.

It became a Commonwealth of the British Empire in 1901.

It was able to take advantage of its natural resources to rapidly develop its agricultural and manufacturing industries and to make a major contribution to the British effort in World Wars I and II.

Australia uses the metric system, though in country areas you may still hear people talking in imperial units when asking directions.

Economy

Australia has had one of the most outstanding economies of the world in recent years.

As a high-growth, low-inflation, low interest rate economy, it is more vibrant than ever before.

There is an efficient government sector, a flexible labor market and a very competitive business sector.

With its abundant physical resources, Australia has enjoyed a high standard of living since the nineteenth century.

It has made a comparatively large investment in social infrastructure, including education, training, health and transport.

Best Places to Visit in Australia

Sydney

Sydney is Australia’s oldest, largest and the most diverse city.

Like a splendid supermodel, the city curves and sways through this glamorous maze of sandstone headlands, lazy bays and legendary surf beaches.

The Sydney experience is essentially physical – dunk yourself in the Bondi surf, sail under the Harbor Bridge on a yacht, jog along the Coogee cliff tops or rampage through Centennial Park on horseback.

Everybody seems to be outside – the beaches are swarming, street cafés buzz and the harbor blooms with sails.

Sydney is a cosmopolitan world city surrounded by World Heritage areas, lush hinterland and acclaimed wine regions of the State of New South Wales…

Sydney is the business gateway to Australia, an economically resilient, politically stable and globally competitive business environment.

Melbourne

Melbourne, the capital of the state of Victoria, is set around the shores of Victoria’s Port Phillip Bay and boasts a lively and cosmopolitan pulse, with chic boutiques, buzzing cafés and bars, immaculate gardens and festivals and popular sporting events.

The city sits on the Yarra River, about five kilometers from the bay.

Melbourne is a city of style and sophistication, with an inviting cosmopolitan atmosphere.

It is definitely a melting pot of cultures reflected in its microcosm of restaurants, cafés, bistros and bars.

Melbourne’s dining offers a dizzying spread of great cuisines, serving meals from the substantial and classic to the truly exotic.

The wine and festival capital of Australia, Adelaide is a place to experience the buzz, culture and convenience of a big city without the frustrations.
